Book Review: Looking for Alaska

There are books that can change your mood or entertain you. And then there are books that can change your life. If you find both in one, you know you’ve read a gem. I will say John Green’s first book is his best. I know this is debatable—what with the success and rave about The Fault In Our Stars. Many people who’ve read the tear-jerker don’t even know Alaska—who’s the motherfvcking fox in this coming of age (and coming out of the labyrinth) book.

It made me laugh and broke my heart. It made me miss my high-school years and all the fun and crazy things I’ve been through with some of the most important people in my life—my friends. It gave me the feeling of being young again and being thankful for the many wonderful years I spent in school. I think every young adult who loves books should read Looking for Alaska. It’s deep in some places but never hard to read. The characters are easy to love however troubled they are.

And though the theme was generally sad especially towards the end, Looking for Alaska thought me an extremely important lesson in life when I needed to hear (read) it the most—I need to forgive myself to get out of the labyrinth of suffering.
